Before relying on a backup

Choose a destination, create a recovery point and verify that the backup completed. Check what the recovery point contains: Site data, independently managed databases and Control settings have different recovery procedures.

Protect against server loss

A backup stored only on the same disk may not survive hardware or server loss. Keep important recovery copies off-server and retain the passwords or credentials needed to restore them.

Restore carefully

Restoring data can replace newer changes. Review the date and contents before proceeding, and confirm the application's data afterwards.
