Runtime environment
Store application configuration and secrets for supported Site runtimes without putting them in source control.
Use Runtime Environment to configure a Site's application settings, including URLs, feature flags, credentials and tokens.
Add or change a value
Open the Site's Runtime Environment section, enter the variable name and value, then save the change. Control normally displays saved variable names without showing their secret values again. Keep your own secure copy of important credentials.
When changes take effect
A running application may need to restart or be recreated when its environment changes. Control performs the supported apply operation and reports the result. For a workload created with deferred start, provide the required values before selecting Activate workload.
Keep credentials private
Do not put passwords or tokens into public repository URLs, source files or job command arguments. Rotate an exposed credential using the application or provider that issued it.
Backups and moving Sites
Different backup and transfer methods preserve different settings. Native Control-to-Control migration can include supported Site runtime environment values in the transferred Site state, but it does not transfer every external provider credential. Portable Site exports, recovery points and application-specific backups may have different coverage. Review the destination's Runtime Environment and external integrations before relying on the restored application.
Keep an independent secure record of important secrets even when an export or migration includes them.
