Host terminal

Use the Administrator-only root host terminal safely and understand its session boundaries.

Open Console gives an Administrator an interactive root shell on the Control host from the browser.

Who can open it

Only an authenticated Administrator browser session can start or operate a host-terminal session. Operator and Read-only users cannot use it, and API tokens cannot open a terminal.

How it behaves

  • Commands run immediately as root on the server.
  • Terminal commands are manual shell work, not queued Control actions.
  • Starting and closing a terminal session is recorded; command and output text is not copied into Activity.
  • The browser terminal is not a transcript or backup. Sessions expire automatically and should be closed when work is complete.

Copy and paste

Selected terminal output can be copied normally. With no selection, Ctrl+C keeps its shell interrupt meaning. Ctrl/Cmd+V and Shift+Insert paste clipboard text into the terminal.

Use it deliberately

Prefer normal Control actions for routine Site, service, package, certificate, backup and configuration work. Manual changes to managed resources can later appear as drift and may be repaired back to the configuration recorded in Control.

Use the console for diagnosis, exceptional maintenance and recovery where a direct shell is appropriate. Keep SSH available as an independent recovery path.

Limitations

The browser console is designed for interactive shell administration. Programs that depend heavily on exact terminal resizing or full-screen terminal behaviour may work better over SSH.
