Navigation

Create reusable menus for Headers, Footers and other supported presentation resources.

Navigation keeps a menu's links and ordering separate from the Header or Footer that displays it.

Create a menu

  1. Open Design → Navigation.
  2. Create a Navigation resource with a clear purpose such as Main Navigation or Footer Navigation.
  3. Add links to published site content or approved external destinations.
  4. Order the items and create child items only where the hierarchy is useful.
  5. Publish the Navigation and select or insert it in the Header, Footer or other supported Resource.

Internal links

Prefer selecting or linking to the real site destination rather than hard-coding an installation-specific address. This helps Navigation continue to work if the site later moves between a root domain and a subdirectory.

Keep menus shallow

A small number of clear top-level choices usually works better than several levels of nested navigation. Test the menu on mobile whenever you add children.

Changing a live menu

Because Navigation is shared, publishing a change can affect every place that uses it. Preview the active Header or Footer if you are making a structural change.
