Prepare WordPress
Prepare a WordPress site so the migration contains the content you actually want to keep.
A cleaner source produces a cleaner migration. Do not use the import as an excuse to carry every abandoned draft, duplicate Page and old theme shell into the new site.
Back up WordPress
Create a complete WordPress backup before installing migration tools or changing source content. Keep it until the Micro CMS cutover has been completed and checked.
Update and stabilise
Resolve obvious WordPress errors, complete any pending database update and make sure important Pages open normally on the source site. Avoid starting a migration in the middle of an unrelated WordPress repair.
Review content scope
- Identify the Pages and Posts that should remain public.
- Remove or exclude test content and obvious duplicates.
- Note important Categories, Tags and Navigation menus.
- Identify Media that is referenced by content you are keeping.
- List application/plugin-generated routes that should be rebuilt as applications or features rather than imported as editorial Pages.
Keep source URLs stable during migration
Do not change the WordPress domain or permalink structure while the importer is analysing and transferring content. Complete those changes during the planned final cutover instead.
