Media upload problems
Resolve upload size, file type, write access and image-processing errors
Media upload failures usually come from the effective upload limit, an unsupported file type, a write-permission problem or image processing.
Check Media Settings
Open Security → Media Settings and compare the selected file with the effective maximum size and supported types shown there.
Try a simple image
Upload a small JPEG or PNG. If that succeeds while the original file fails, the problem is likely specific to size, format or the file itself rather than the entire Media library.
Check Site Health and Diagnostics
An unwritable Media location or unavailable PHP image feature should be corrected at the hosting level rather than worked around by repeatedly choosing another folder.
Check the public result
If upload succeeds but the image does not open, verify the configured public Media path and any recent site move. Use the relocation troubleshooting guide when the problem started after changing domain or directory.
